  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hey guys

Marnie was playing as normal , then all of a sudden she started licking her mouth a lot, and using her paws to kinda wipe her toung, and her throat was making ‘sticky noises’

So we tried to have a look in her mouth it she wouldn’t let us touch her, she even batted away our hands, which she never does.

We then got her some water which she drank, and tried to pick her up to look at her mouth and teeth, she’s not a fan of being picked up at the best of time, but seemed to annoy her even more, then she ran in to the hutch had some nuggets drank some more water.

Now she’s right as rain playing with her toys and laying down, all very odd

Is there any reasons behind this? We thought mabey something stuck in her mouth or just needed to clear her throat, either way she’s fine now, just a bit unnerving when we don’t know what she was doing lol

I think this is the most likely. Good she is ok now

Judging by the fact that whenever I take my rabbits to the vet and she looks at their teeth, they invariably have something stuck between their gnashers, I should think your explanation above is correct :)

Brilliant thanks :) nice to have people agree to settle the mind :D
the fact that she the destroyed 2 sticks and ate a load of nuggets then licked my face and lasted down for a cuddle suggests I don’t think 1 should worry :)
