  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried about Beans

He felt a bit thin before but was acting fine but today he’s been lying down a lot and hasn’t eaten all of his food. He ate some of Jellys, and he ate all of his porridge oats but not much pellets. Should I keep an eye on him? Is it just the weather? I don’t know he just doesn’t seem quite right

Has he eaten much hay? Not sure why you are giving him porridge oats?
I would go on my gut reaction and head off to the vet tonight; you know how quickly rabbits can go downhill.

To help put weight on. He only had a few in with his pellets. He’s eating pellets now and is running around and seems ok.ill watch him over the next hour and make a decision then

Has he eaten/is he eating plenty of hay?

I often give porridge oats to help underweight pets. I hope he improves, sometimes I find it they're picking at foods or still eating but not 100% I find it might mean they need a dental? So maybe a vet check tomorrow for teeth and can also check gut sounds/movement in case of potential gut issues? Hope he improves tonight X

How is he doing now? Did you have to go?

Generally I find that if I notice something, however subtle, I've unfortunately been proved right.

All the best x

Strangely he’s been absolutely fine, moving around as normal, eating hay, eating pellets and he’s now sitting normally whereas before he kept lying down in odd positions. It’s really confusing but I’m going to keep an eye on him for now
