Hay or grass or both?

What's better for them?
Wild rabbits eat grass, so should our bunnies be eating grass?

Either :)

One or the other is fine, or both is fine.

My outdoor two get a mixture, my indoor two get mostly hay, unless it's the grass I grow for them but they're fine on just hay.

Buns seem to love grass so I always try to get them some if they aren't out on it. But for my indoor ones I can't provide the sheer amount to just give them fresh grass, and you can't feed grass cuttings from a lawnmower apparently so they have loads of hay available instead :)

I agree :thumb:

They are both the same product really, except that hay is the dried version. In my experience rabbits will like to eat grass in preference to hay and for that reason it's a good idea to provide it when the rabbit is not feeling 100%, e.g. after an anaesthetic. It's not always possible to provide only grass though and so a mixture is fine, as is either one or the other.

So whatever your rabbits will eat a lot of is the best for them :)

Rabbits do tend to prefer grass to hay if they have the option. As grass isn't available all year round, it is important to get them eating hay from a young age so that they are in the habit of eating it. It makes life so much easier if they just love the stuff.

Both!

The advantage of grass over hay is that it contains moisture. This is beneficial for avoiding bladder sludge (excess calcium deposits).

However, a good mix of everything - fresh grass, dried grass, hays of different sorts - replicates what a rabbit would eat in the wild.

Interesting about moisture and grass/hay etc:
