Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rear leg amputation UPDATE Question re vaccination?

Gorgeous bunny. I'm so glad you're taking her on. I bet you'll end up having a really special bond xx

Bless her  her leg really is a mess isn’t it

Topping up the vibes and hugs xx
It is, I nearly cried when I saw it and even though everyone was advocating pit to sleep something just told me she wasn't ready and she's proved that she is slowly becoming more used to me and I'm getting to see that she is super inquisitive, I'm on a bit of a learning curve she is the most "disabled" rabbit I've ever taken on although she doesn't seem to know it

She's a very beautiful girl, and obviously very determined too, just like her owner

Update on lady Priscilla things did not go according to plan at all today she refused to eat and had zero gut motility so after loads of meds and syringe feeding and me stressing out my mind (I've only had her 24 hours and I'm already horrendously attached to her ) she is eating some hay and has passed poo very small ones but hey I'll take it the op is postponed til Friday or if I can manage it and she can manage it next Tuesday when I contacted a rabbit savvy vet she said there was no rush as when she saw x-ray she thinks it's at least a week old fracture as bones are already trying to knit together!!! Although looking at her x-ray myself I have no idea how that will ever knit together, she also said as long as it doesn't become a compound fracture and depending on Priscilla another option would be allow it to heal by itself get some weight of her then do the amputation it all depends on my little madam I guess and how rested and comfortable I can keep her I have some decisions to make in next couple of days I'm a little worried about surgery as she was only sedated yesterday and even though she was on I've fluids and gi meds throughout she's still taken a nasty bought of stasis but i don't know how that leg is ever going to heal up, I should mention she isn't a young bunny she's around 4-6 I'm still condition amputation eventually but the fact I could potentially leave her with a deformed leg with the use of painrelief in the short term is in itself the decision I have gone for at least for the next 72 hours hopefully that's the right decision for us both although she really isn't bothered by the leg at all which I think is remarkable she's such a character sorry for the long post
I've put her x-ray up so you can see what we are dealing with and a photo of grumpy herself

Update she still hasn't had surgery!!!! I noticed she was sneezing yesterday and now we have progressed on to full on white snot so the operation was scheduled for tomorrow but it's been postponed whilst she is on a course of antibiotics, she however is not concerned in the slightest with the snots or the leg ,is bright and eating but the general consensus in discussion with my vets and advice from both an exotic and orthopaedic specialist is the leg isn't an emergency and she needs to be well ( which I agree with as a vet nurse but my owner head is take it off it has to be painful) alwith the way missy is going it's going to fuse together by the time I get her stable enough for surgery then there will be no point in amputation.
Sorry for the long winded post but i am in a dilemma although I guess I'm guided by prissy and she is however only bothered by the fact she is on cage Rest

Oh I am sorry that she now has a RTI. It is definitely best to wait for the abx to do their stuff before she has her op'. She certainly sounds to be a feisty girl and hopefully that will work in her favour.

Lots more vibes being sent xx

Thank you when I spoke to the orthopedic surgeon today he didn't seem at all concerned about the leg where as I'm freaking out he says and I qoute it's not compound she's not bleeding she's not paralysed so leave it alone for the next week at least he also said looking at her x-ray that there is a callus forming already and amputation opposed to external fixation would be the only option as to properly put the leg together again he'd need to re-break it he said that as amputation is completely irreversible it might be best to see how the leg looks after another 1-3 weeks and see how much range of movement she has left like I say though I'm stressing but she's happily tucking into her dinner

Oh sorry to hear it's been postponed, but I agree, she has to be as well as possible.

I hope the antibiotics work their magic quickly for her :)

Today's update she is improving from the RTI the antibiotics are working as for the leg I'm still unsure what to do, she did her first Binky this morning so has now been put into an even smaller cage and she's grooming everything including me  and in all honesty is incredibly happy so I am leaning towards four legs no matter how wonky one is will be better long term than three I can always revisit amputation if necessary but at the minute I'm being guided by Priscilla and she is utterly unphased by all of this

Things are not looking great for miss Priscilla :( she was booked for surgery tomorrow as the bone is in danger of coming through the skin but she's in stasis again and I've found a mammary lump also she is unlikely to survive surgery no gi sounds at all so she's back on fluids syringe feeding etc and the vet and o managed to get a splint on her it's not ideal but hopefully will help until I can eventually get her through surgery cage is still really bright but every time I try to treat her either with GA or not she goes in to stasis through stress I fear I'm going to have to just go for surgery and hope that with intensive nursing afterwards she makes it I'm so upset by the whole thing when she is at home she is happy and moving around well but a journey in the car to a vet and her guts just stop

Gosh. I can imagine how upsetting this all is for you. If only she knew you were just trying to make her well again. I hope she stabilises & can cope with the op xx

I'm sorry to read this update. What a distressing and difficult decision to have to make for her. Sending her lots of vibes.
