  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rear leg amputation UPDATE Question re vaccination?

I think with the current situation going on, its advised to get filivac if you can, and do that one first. it covers both RHD1 & RHD2 if I'm not mistaken. both RHD viruses are airborne, so there's nothing we can to against it to protect. myxi is mostly flies I believe, so steps can be taken to prevent it. although of course both are as important.

eravac is a different vaccine and only covers RHD2. its usually given to meat rabbits as it has a withdrawal period of 0 days, meaning that there is no wait time between having the vaccine and when the rabbit can be slaughtered. if you can only get that one, then I'm not sure what I would do first, possibly still eravac, but its a tough call.

don't quote me on it, but I do believe that eravac has only 9 months of immunity (filivac has 12), or at least that's what this link says:

Yea normally I'd do the combined one first then RHD2 two weeks later... But how things currently are... I'd do RHD2 then the combined one two weeks later personally :)

I'd want to cover for RHD first. So as BC and Gracie have said, having the Eravac first, which only covers for RHD2. If Filavac is used this covers both RHD1 and RHD2. The advice is to leave a 2 week period between giving Eravac/Filavac and Nobivac Myxo-RHD

Data sheets here :

Nobivac Myxo-RHD (Covers myxomatosis and RHD1)

Eravac (Covers only RHD2)

Thank you for the replies that was my feelings to I just wanted others opinions I'll go for eravac first as we are struggling to get hold of the filavac at my practice at the moment
