  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Erasmus Chipper

Thank you all so much.

'Mus is still very bright this morning. He was last through the pipe to the 'feeding' run. But then he seemed like he was getting deliberately getting under foot - he tripped River up in order to get to pellets. I'm glad people think I have made the right decision, and that theyy may have made the same choice too. He looked so sad in Z's arms yesterday, I nearly did veer the other way. It's one of those cases where I'll continually second-guess myself. At least, this morning, he still seems happy enough.

:love::love::love:

Just before dinner, we allowed him to have a run-around on the driveway (heavily supervised!) In fact, he hopped out of the hutch from the lowest shelf (It's a 4 shelf half-a-shed conversion.) Athena and Neo just stared out at the ground, like a pair of numpties. But 'Mus is just so fearless. He enjoyed some bramble, dandelion, grass, dog violet, and groundsel. Did a good job 'weeding' around our elderly neighbour's back gate!

Then, I popped him back in, for dinnertime. And he still went for his share of veggies with River, Athena, and Neo. But when holding him, it's like a kick in the gut about just how frail he is. He really doesn't have long and that hurts.

I know it's easy for me to say, but he does not know this. He is living in the moment and as long as he feels well within himself then as far as he is concerned there is nothing wrong.

I do realise that is of little consolation to you though. We, as Bunny care givers, have to take on the implications of all the 'knowing'. IYSWIM xx

He doesn't understand what's happening, and that's a Godsend, as he behaves as he normally would for as long as he can.
His quality of life is good!

It's us that suffer with these things far more. He's in great hands with you, and love surrounds him.

Hugs for you x

Thanks, both.

He looks so horribly frail, but he just wants to keep going at the moment. He's such a brave boy; I can't help but admire his tenacity. Equally I can't bear to take any more photos of him because he is so visibly poorly. But he's happy in himself. I've never seen anything quite like it before.

I definitely take comfort in the knowledge that each day to him, is another day to snuggle up with the rest of his group and another day to eat all the things. It's all 'normal' to him, even if we can see it isn't.

Going to go foraging later so he (and the rest of the gang) can enjoy that.

I'm really sorry to hear he's gone. Lovely to hear he was enjoying his noms, companions & adventures right up to the end. Sweet dreams lil bun xx

I am desperately sorry and sad to read of gorgeous Erasmus' passing. He really had the best quality of life that you could give him and lived for the moment always. His tenacity and sheer zest for living is a tribute to how you made him feel and how he felt in the bond and family. Binkey free sweet Erasmus - you endearing spirit will always live on. xx

So sorry, but what a loving happy life he knew with you, right to the end bless him. Binky free little bun xxx
