How's Oxbow Organic Bounty compares to the old Rabbit Essentials

Happy Hopping

I have been buying the old Rabbit Essentials in the past many years. Recently, Oxbow has this organic product out:

vs. old Rabbit Essentials:

anyone of you has switch to the Organic Bounty and is happy about it?

and if not, what are you not happy about?

I haven't ever seen them or used them so I can't say, but from the analytical contents they don't look to bad. I tend to use this site to help me out when getting a new pellet, there are some good rules and it breaks down what you need and now much % everything should have. they also list a lot of rabbit food and the ones that meet the requirements are in green. while it is a UK site, it still contains useful information IMHO and lists some US brands

both Oxbow Organic & Essentials are listed.

grass/hay is the first listed ingredient, as ingredients go by weight, which looks good.

it has a good amount of fibre, it doesn't have too much protein either. fibre should be at least 18%, the higher is always the better. protein for adult rabbits is 12-14%, baby rabbits is 16% to help them grow.

they're lower in fat than recommended (2.4-5%), they come in at 2%. it is .4% less, so I wouldn't be too picky, but something to keep in mind.

the only concern is how low in calcium the Essentials is, which is always a cause for concern. with rabbit diet you need to balance it right. too much calcium and you can get bladder sludge, too little and you could end up with bone issues and teeth issues. a healthy amount of calcium should be between 0.5 - 1.0%, the Essentials only contains 0.35-0.75% which is a huge variable of 40%.

theres also a whole ratio thing of calcium to prosperous that I can't wrap my head around, but its equally important. neither of them tick that box however.

generally, the Organic ticks more boxes in being healthier than the Essentials does. its not ideal and still has improvements to be made, but its healthier in that sense.
