  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Honeys in for op

So Honey has another check with the vet tomorrow. This is her eye today. Alot less red and swollen but not sure what it should look like to be honest. It's alot better than it was.

Hope she's OK at the vet today Lucy x

Thanks for all your support! The vet says it's doing OK but wants to see her again next week to check the stitches aren't irritating her eyeball. He put some dye in and it showed a little irritation but with her eye drops it should be ok. He unfolded something he'd done last week.... Part of the third eyelid I think to keep the tear duct in place. It seems to have done the job. Looks better this evening than this morning. 😊

I hope it continues to heal up well Lucy.

Your vet seems very competent :)

So another check tomorrow and I'm a little worried. It looks like the top eyelid/ socket is swollen... Bit wet too. Not sure what to expect now....

Oh dear, I hope that there is nothing too serious going on. Sending lots more vibes for her.

Wasn't as bad as I thought. Two stitches hadn't dissolved and we're irritating her eye so he put local anaesthetic in her eye and removed them. Looks better now and hopefully swelling will go down over the next week 😀

Phew !!! So pleased that it was nothing too serious. I am sure she'll feel a lot more comfortable now the stitches are not irritating her eye.

Great news Lucy!

I wonder why those stitches hadn't dissolved? Maybe a matter of time?

Perhaps yes. I'm so relieved though. She looks much more comfortable. Thank you for everyone's vibes!
