  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I do, my rabbits love it! I know it’s a sure sign to get them to the vets if they reject that too.

Pretty sure it's like a fibre paste to help their guts move/start moving.

Can be helpful :)

Yeah it is, and it's got prebiotics in there too.

A lot of vets say that probiotics/prebiotics are useless anyway, because they don't work with the acidity of the rabbit's stomach. But it won't do any harm and as nap says, there are actually rabbits that like it :D

Yea William said that with Atticus' conditions, that's they probably don't work as they don't survive... But they do no harm and can be both a try.

Made me think, human probiotics there's 3 on the market which supposedly deliver alive bacteria to the gut. The rest may contain lots but they're all dead/have been dead for some time. But people still say they can be beneficial... Maybe it's a placebo Idk. Or maybe they don't all have to be alive.. But if they're dead how do they repopulate... I have so so many questions [emoji38][emoji38]

I think with humans, it's a good idea to repopulate with prebiotic food - that's what I do anyway :D

ah, it sounds like a powder I have. pro-c probiotic? you pop it in water and it makes it a funny green color. as Snoopy was a stasis prone bun, I did notice some improvement with him after using it and he drank more water too which was a concern. it was healthier than adding juice/squash in

He probably drank more water because probiotic contains sugar :)

that's fair MM - he needed to drink more anyway as often he was dehydrated, so he ended up with a camel hump at the vets for being lethargic. was a bit of a circle thing, didn't drink enough (maybe his jaw hurting), ended up dehydrated, didn't eat or move around, and then stasis. the probiotic encouraged him to drink and was probably better than juice in the water or squash lol

I'm not sure that I would prefer to give my rabbits glucose (in Avipro) over fruit juice (usually a piece of apple whizzed in a blender with lots of filtered water) but I don't want to start WW3 over this

Avipro! That's the green and white one I was talking about, Atticus likes that one.

Tbh I agree, I didn't want him taking those things long term, they're good sometimes and if you need to encourage more drinking etc, but I tend to use a piece of apple or something like you said :)
