Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Honey’s results Update p68

Sorry for just appearing when things go wrong. Honey is now almost 9 and has been having regular spells of not eating lately. She went in for X-rays and bloods today and there are a few things that have shown up. There appear to be 2 masses, one in her chest and one in her abdomen. The vet can’t tell what they are from the X-ray. There were a few problems with her bloods too, so the vet has sent everything to D1ck vet to see what they think.

I’ve attached one of the X-rays if anyone wants a look or has any ideas.

I am sorry to hear that Honey is unwell. Has she shown any signs of laboured breathing and/or do her eyes ever appear to bulge a bit ? Did the Vet mention a raised white blood cell count ?

I am sure that the Specialists at the Royal D1ck will offer good advice. Sending vibes for Honey Bunny

Thank you for replying Jane. The bloods showed Honey is anemic, her protein is high and the Lymphocyte count was low. She has had bulging eyes at times, with her third eyelid showing. I was worried about that after Fluff and his thymoma. Her breathing has been ok, but she spends most of her time sitting sleeping now for some reason.

I hope that you dont have to wait too long to hear back from the Royal D1ck xx

Thanks for the vibes. Honey goes for her scan 2 weeks today. The images weren’t a good quality after they were sent to D1ck vet, but they are quite concerned as to why her colon is being pushed down. They weren’t able to see enough details of the suspected mass in her chest. Two weeks seems a long time to wait, but they are seemingly very busy just now.

I hope that she can remain comfortable, at least she is blissfully unaware of what is going on. Unfortunately it is you who will be worried and anxious whilst waiting for the scan.

I also hope that life in general is being a little kinder to you these days, I know 'things' have been very difficult and I am sure you must miss Mr Bubble and Lucky more than words can say

Sending lots of vibes for Honey Bunny and supportive hugs for you xx

Thank you for the lovely post Jane. How kind of you to remember my little angels .

My mental health took quite a tumble but I am getting to a better place now.

You have obviously worked exceptionally hard to keep going and you should be extremely proud of yourself. I will keep Honey Bunny in my thoughts and I hope that you will be able to update us as to how she gets on when she has her scan xx

Thinking of you and sending hugs, and lots of vibes for Honey. I’m sorry it’s been so hard for you lately:cry: xx

Thank you all so much for all the vibes for Honey

My vet has been in touch and wants Honey to start gabapentin as well as taking the metacam, Tramadol and Zantac. She is hoping it will help make Honey more comfortable till her appointment. I have never used gabapentin on my bunnies before, only on my dog Lucky. Unfortunately it didn’t agree with her. Does anyone have any experience of using it?

Yes, two of my Bunnies were prescribed it. It helped one, but the other one had a bad reaction to it. I am sure your Vet knows that it's advisable to start at a really low dose and gradually increase it til a therapeutic dose is achieved ? There is some worrying claims online about how Gabapentin can cause serious neurological problems in Rabbits, often when the drug is stopped. Apparently this information is now out-dated. But as with introducing the drug if a time comes when it is no longer needed it is advisable to gradually reduce the dose rather than just stop it abruptly.

Thank you for the advice Jane. My vet has started Honey on 0.1ml twice a day and wants to see how she does on that dose before increasing it. I will make sure she comes off it gradually should she stop it at some point.

Sending honey some comfortable vibes and hugs for you [emoji175][emoji175]

Honey is in the care of Rabbit Savvy Vets so you can at least feel confident that you will receive good advice xx
