  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dirty bum

Elop

Warren Scout
So today I cleaned out Charlie’s pen and washed his flooring with carbolic soap. Anyway this evening he has a dirty bun and stained back paws. His poo is normal. I baby wipes his bum but couldn’t clean it all off so bathed his bum and back paws in warm water much to his annoyance. I sprayed his floor strike deterrent spray all over his hind legs. I don’t know why he would a dirty bum as he has unlimited hay and food quality pellets. I wondered if he was having a dirty protest because I cleaned his pen.

I doubt it's in protest.. Has anything in his diet changed at all? Even just a new treat or veggie or something?

I'd not give any more and see how he goes for a few days and hope it was just a reaction to that. He's quite young isn't he? Younger buns can be very sensitive tummy wise unfortunately - I normally don't start introducing treats until after 6 months old - but! That treat may just not have agreed with him :)

I totally agree! Pellets and hay only from now on. Luckily there is no fly strike and his bum is now clean and his hocks are clean again. He hasn’t flopped in front of the fire yet though so he is very cross with me
