Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please keep Phillip in your thoughts (Update on post 146)

Don’t want to speak too soon but I think Phillip may have just been having an off day yesterday.

Late afternoon he turned his nose up at food so I syringe fed and gave him gut meds as a precaution.

We went out for the evening yesterday (pre-planned so couldn’t cancel) and when we returned he had eaten everything that had been in his cage that day. He then jumped onto the bed, booped me on the nose and ran off to cause mischief.
This morning he has also been a lot more alert and eating still.

Will mention it to John when I go and obviously keep an eye on him but feeling more positive today. These rabbits do love to scare us!!

I'm pleased to hear that Phillip is doing better today. IME with 'cardiac Rabbits' they can have days when they are somewhat lethargic. You did well to make sure his GI tract kept ticking over and I hope he continues to have a good day today xx

I do find this can happen sometimes, and it certainly is scary.

But you were quick enough to deal with the situation and resolve it (fingers crossed!)

I also find dosing Infacol straight away often has the same effect as the gut meds if things are at an early stage.

Did John give you the gi drugs? I really hope Phillip will keep doing well xx

Thanks Jane. Good to know about the lethargic days as well.

I do have a supply of infacol, usually use it with Snowy as she regularly gets gas.
Will keep that in mind if Phillip has another episode.

No my local vet lets me have a supply of them as both my rabbits are prone to stasis. It has saved me a huge amount in vet visits!

Phillip is currently tearing around upstairs, thank goodness.

Oh that's really handy. I asked John for drugs to save me taking Toby all the time when he had gas and he said no. Would of been a lot of less stress for him.

Good boy Philip!

It's been a life saver, as like Toby, it really upsets Snowy to be outside of her normal environment. I can usually spot the symptoms of her going into stasis straight away and with meds on hand, bring her back to normal within a day or so. If she shows any different symptoms or she isn't getting better at her normal rate, then I'd obviously take her straight in, but it's definitely a big help to have them at home as she normally goes into stasis on a Sunday night or bank holiday weekend

Just been to see John, he’s super pleased with Phillip’s progress and said his heart sounds a lot clearer, which is amazing. He’s staying on metacam and the diuretic as he is doing well so no heart meds just yet.

John said the odd down days Phillip has been having are completely normal (he said we all have them! But probably more so with Phillip’s heart). So that’s good too. Next check up not for 2/3 months and that’ll be another short one like today all being well.

A good start to my day [emoji16]

Oh Phillip :( Looks like a trip to see Uncle John for you then. I hope this is something simple to treat.

Probably will have to be my local vet as there’s no way I can make the journey to John in term time around my work hours. Luckily my local vet is an eye specialist! Fingers crossed it is nothing major.

Edit: All booked in with my local vet tomorrow at 3.45. Silly rabbit :(

Dennis had one weepy eye so was worried he needed a dental. He didn't need any treatment at all and now it's completely gone. Hopefully the same for Phillip xx
