  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

More people may see your post if you start a new thread. This thread is 6 years old and the OP may never come on to the site any more.

How an individual Rabbit is effected by EC an how much of a recovery may be possible can vary widely and is hard to predict.

Metacam and Loxicom are the same drug, 'Meloxicam', just made by different Companies. It is a non steroidal anti inflammatory analgesic and with EC it is important to try to minimise the inflammatory response caused when EC spores erupt into the cells of specific organs/the CNS.

Also sending lots of vibes for Honey. I'm sorry I have no personal experience of caring for a rabbit with EC, so cannot advise on that.

If you do not have full confidence in your current vet, it might be worth asking for recommendations on this forum for rabbit savvy vets in the area of London where you live.

Hi there

I'm glad you've managed to get a urine sample :)

I know you and I have had a long 'conversation' on the thread you started ..

http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?471377-Rabbit-nappies-and-wee-scold

What I suggest, if you'd like vet recommendations, is to start a thread in Rabbit Chat with this in the header ..

Rabbit Savvy Vet needed in (your location) ... and members will give you their recommendations

Alternatively you can search here for a recommended vet:

https://www.harcourt-brown.co.uk/vetfinder/vets-owners-recommendations

And the RWAF have their own suggestions for finding a good vet:

http://www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk

You can always PM me with your location and I shall help you find a vet if I can :D:wave:

(by the way Emma, Loxicom and Meloxicam/Metacam are identical drugs, just different names :))

I think Jane was just trying to help the OP get more views as members might not necessarily check an old thread...... the question is slightly different to the other thread whiskers has started - that was to do with urine scald in particular, whereas this is more about ec in general. But hopefully the OP has found the advice on both threads extremely useful.

I've moved the posts from the old thread into this one so it's all in one place.

Hi all thank you for all of your reply's and links, vey much appreciated indeed, I was just searching through old threads on the site to do with E cunuli and I found a post where some people had taken their poorly Rabbits for Acupuncture and treatment with a lady called Caroline, so as a long shot I replied to the thread just to find out more. xx

One of the links I posted in my previous reply gives information about the Acupuncture Treatment my Vet offers. She is located in Twickenham, SW London (Twickenham Veterinary Surgery). Not sure if the Surgery is anywhere near you

Hi there

You're welcome!

If you don't want to give out your location publicly, do PM me as I know of several vets in London who do acupuncture who I could recommend :)
