upgrading + rabbits and lino/hardwood floors?

New Kit
So we're extending the kitchen and living room and realized we have a lot of space to upgrade Snowy, as she is a house bunny and has a base cage, we wanna give her even more room for a base cage and were looking at some possible options:
- A large C&C Cage
- A large X-Pen
- Any other suggestions you may have???

Another question; she doesn't seem to mind when she's out of her cage however she does skid when she decides to bolt around the living room, but do you reckon she may find it difficult trying to adjust from a life in a home where she lives on woodshavings to living on the bare floor. Would you recommend using rugs/towels/foam playmats or lining the floor with newspaper and adding woodshavings on top?

And lastly, would it be dangerous for Snowy to live on flooring which does have underfloor heating, due to temperatures in winter dropping extremely in the UK, as well as not being sure if the kitchen may be the best place for her to live???

Any other advice would be great!!!
Thanks!!!

Hello and welcome. I don't have indoor rabbits but wood shavings are not good for the rabbit's respiratory system and when wet can give off toxic fumes. Also I would imagine a rabbit would find underfloor heating too warm. Someone else will be along to advise on housing and bedding. Is Snowy litter trained?

We had underfloor heating & I asked my specialist we were seeing at the time how this would be for the bunnies - she thought it would be ok as long as they had a cooler option to move to if needed. Underfloor heating was a lot gentler than I anticipated & the bunnies seemed to enjoy it. I've never had a penned area for my house bunnies but do give them zones with areas of bedding & a big litter tray (understorage box) with some kind of substrate (I use megazorb) & plenty of hay. Its good to have rugs etc down on top of wood or lino floors to allow them to exercise more freely as ideally their nails should have traction on the floor. If they skid there is a risk of spinal damage apparently. I've had rabbits that refuse to walk on lino or wood flooring, others embrace it. Lastly, my rabbits love to spend the day snoozing under something which must make them feel more secure being pray animals. So mine mainly hang out under the coffee table

although Mousey in particular also likes to hang out here where she has more space

Welcome to RU. Looking forward to seeing a photo of snowy & hearing more from you

Hi  Welcome to the forum :)

Would it be possible to bunny proof and have her free roaming? I would do away with the shavings all together and just have rugs down or Lino with some rugs on top, if you need to protect the floor in certain areas.

Our indoor buns are in bedrooms, so are on carpet. But one in particular started off outside with bedding, then moved to a shed with lino and is now on carpet and hasn't been bothered by the changes. I think they'll adapt x

we'd love to have her out all day, everyday but there are times when she's left at home alone, and just for that reassurance, we'd rather keep her confined rather than let her have full run of the house, cus she'd get anywhere and everywhere!
Also we haven't litter trained her or given her a litter tray due to the fact she normally only uses 2 corners of her cage and only in it for the night or when shes alone
