Rabbit with Funny Ears

New to Rabbit keeping, why are bunnies ears so hairless?

Also has lumps inside ears, 2 at present, we do let him run round the garden and have a dog, could he have picked something up out the garden?

Just had his first injection week ago, was fine then vet said very healthy rabbit.

Any Ideas, thankyou

Hello

When you say there are 'lumps inside the ears' have they only just appeared and did this happen after the vaccination ?

How 'hairless' are his ears ? The inner area of the ears are furless, but the outer area should not be.

Can you post a photo of your Rabbit to show his ears as it's difficult to ascertain what, if anything, may be wrong without being able to see him.

Hi there and welcome to the Forum

I'm glad the vet thinks your rabbit is healthy.

Rabbit ears are furless on the inside, but outside often have a (finer) covering of hair than on the rest of the body. Sometimes for various reasons they can lose this fur but it usually grows back.

Lumps in the ears .. did you mention this to the vet? When he goes for his second injection - probably next week? - please mention this, although the vet would have looked in the ears with the health check and vaccination.

One thing lumps in the ears can be is ear mites, but as I've said, the vet would surely have seen these.

Sorry new to this just figuring out how to upload the picture to an album, went to control panel as per help pages, but does not allow me to create an album or upload pictures, will be back when I figure it out, but thankyou

Is it just the one ear, and could you look at his genitals to see if there is any swelling? It's just that it could be a reaction to the Myxo vaccination.

Rabbits can't sweat, so their ears are relatively furless enabling them to regulate heat loss and body temp through the ears blood vessels. One of the "lumps" in your boys ear looks like a tiny cauliflower ( papilloma) so may be a side effect of his vaccination last week.
