  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does Cookie have a cold?

The other night Dan fell asleep on the sofa and forgot to close the windows downstairs, when i came down in the morning it was so cold.
Yesterday and today i have noticed Cookie sneezing and todsy she sounds nasal, is it possible she could have caught a cold?
We were only at the vets last week for MOT and vaccine.

Rabbits do not get 'colds' as such. Sneezing can indicate the start of a respiratory tract infection, or it can occur as a result of an allergy to something in the environment. Dental problems can also cause a Rabbit to sneeze.

Is there any nasal discharge ? As well as looking at her nose, check the fur on the insides of her front paws. A Rabbit with nasal discharge will usually wipe their nose a lot, so whilst it may seem as though there is no discharge (ie none seen around the nose) wet sticky fur can be found on the 'cuffs' of the front paws.

If Cookie is still sneezing and/or sounding 'nasal' then a Vet check is needed as she would need to be thoroughly examined, including having her lungs checked.

Good luck x

Bless her we were at the vets last week having check up and vaccine. I will check her paws tonight.
