Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baytril dose

Hey guys
I'm currently speaking to a lovely lady in Greece who's bunny has recently been treated for sore hocks with Baytril. Her bunny weighs 1kg and the dose was 2ml a day. Now, i've never really used Baytril myself but to me this seems like a high dose for such a teeny tiny bunny.
To cut a long story short, the bunny has started having seizures. I have read that high doses of Baytril can bring in seizures in bunnies. Do you think there could be a connection here?
Really just floating around ideas (many of them ranging from epilepsy to EC etc) as there is no rabbit savvy vets where she lives :(
Bunny is currently doing well, eating/drinking/pooping etc

It depends on several things:

The strength of Baytril prescribed 2.5%, 5%. The 2.5% is the one usually prescribed, but you'd need to be sure
The route of administration- Oral or Subcutaneous injection
The condition being treated

Sounds very high, even for the 2.5% solution

It's hard to work out but it contains 25mg per ml and the dosage is 5mg per kg, so I would make that 0.2ml per kg.

The dosages are different maybe if you are adding it to their drinking water rather than directly administering it orally.

I agree with Stator - that dose does sound rather high.

I have a rabbit on Baytril at the moment and even from that, at 2.5%, that dose seems very above normal.

I've got a bunny who is just over 2kg and who is on 1.8ml once a day, that's 20mg/kg which is very top of the dose range - so it does sound very high for a 1kg rabbit assuming that the strength of the solution is the same in Greece as it is here.
