Rabbit teeth filed but still not eating

Sorry to hear the solution you thought was there isn't any longer. I'm a little surprised tbh but since I'm a neither a vet or specialist ...

Pen injections can work wonders though so there is reason to keep the faith. Vibes for you bun xx

I'm sorry to read your update regarding the eye removal. I, too, am surprised and do not understand the reasons. However, I too am not qualified to comment.

Pen injections are very effective and even if they do not produce a cure, I would think with long term use they could manage the situation.

So sorry to hear this latest news, about the eye situation. Your bun is a little fighter, so really hope the injections get on top of the infection. You are doing a great job ! Xxx

Sorry that the operation has been cancelled  I think if you are in any doubt about the decision you could post on here asking for rabbit specialist vets near you to get a second opinion. Topping up the vibes xx

Sorry it has been a while since an update, I was poorly myself for a little while. Once the operation for eye removal was cancelled it was recommended that we have him pts as soon as possible as he was suffering and we booked the appointment very reluctantly for the Saturday of that week (23rd May) so my husband could come along to say goodbye. We wondered if it was worth keeping on the medication and putting him through daily injections during his last days but I decided to keep on with it as I knew I would regret trying otherwise.

On the Friday morning Alfie started chewing at the towel that was placed on the floor as he was not really using his tray. I quickly removed this and offered him nuggets, which much to our delight her ate. We quickly cancelled the appointment for the next day and have kept up the metacam and daily injections of depocillin at home over the last two weeks.

Alfie is eating completely normally, hay nuggets and everything and seems completely normal in himself, flopping out on the floor and has put on 5% body weight in two weeks. When we took him for a check up yesterday they said that the abscess behind his eye has ruptured, the swelling has completely gone down, he can almost close his eyelid and his inner eyelid is almost normal but he has a hard white crust which seems to be attached and embedded in his eye with some fresher yellowish puss around the edge which I clean regularly. The original abscess site has healed well but has a tiny bit of puss discharge.

I don't know what the outcome will be from here, I know that there is a high chance that the abscess will return, and I am not sure if leaving his eye could lead to septicemia however the vet is still not comfortable to take it out and for now I am taking each day as it comes and continuing on the depocillin - is there a limit to how long I can keep him on this?

There's absolutely no limit to how long you can keep him on the depocillin MrsBun - I have had bunnies on it for years, literally and they have done really well.

Now that the pressure is released, and because he's got a good lot of antibiotic in his system, I am hopeful he will do well.

You are amazing the way you spotted him chewing on the towel and gave him nuggets and gave him another chance at life!
Bless you and him
