Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone, I am hoping your wealth of knowledge will help me.

We found a large (half ping pong size) a little bit cauliflower looking lump on Benny Jr.'s rump, near back leg.
We were desperately hoping it was an abscess as his brother has been doing alot of spring fever humping (they are both neutered)

The vet has come back saying he has no idea what it is, it's not am abscess. It had its own blood vessels and there was no pus present. It is now going off for testing.

We are sick with worry.

Benny and his brother Scootsy are otherwise very fit happy, free range house bunnies. They are three years old lionheads.

Any ideas? I have been reading the very comprehensive Textbook of rabbit medicine but its not giving me much info.

Sorry, I have no experience of lumps on bunnies, just wanted to to say I hope it's nothing serious. Sending loads of vibes for your little chap xxx

I dont think it'll be much help to suggests what the mass might be. I know it is hard not to immediately think 'worse case scenarios', but until the path' lab gets back to the Vet with the histopathology results looking at all the 'might bes' will only serve to stress you out.

Been there, done that myself on numerous occasions so I do empathise.

For now try to focus on the fact that Benny has come through the op' OK and it sounds as though the Vet has managed to remove all of the mass. I hope that you wont have to wait too long for the results.

Wishing Benny well for a full recovery xx

Oh dear Mia I am so sorry to hear this :(

There are several things I can think of that it could be. But is it worth you worrying yourself to bits until the testing has come back with a result? Sending you loads and loads of hugs x

When will the result be back?

I really appreciate your replies guys. I think the results will be back Tuesday. Luckily there is an exotic specialist in Andover that I can use if needs be. He does a clinic even closer to me on a Friday too, in Hythe
(we are based in Southampton)

The vet said he'd be surprised if it was something sinister..

Yes I am a terrible worrier, I have an anxiety disorder which doesn't help!

But I really appreciate the solidarity, thanks.

So we'll wait till next week and see.

I think everyone on here can relate to being worried sick about our buns; I appreciate how unpleasant the waiting period is.

Sending lots of 'nothing serious' vibes Benny's way. x

Cling onto that, and get through the days until you know :)

I will be rooting for you both :)

Also, as far as Benny is concerned once he has recovered from the op' he will be oblivious to any ongoing worries. Unfortunately for us care givers the worrying is our job !

It's heartbreaking seeing him so uncomfortable. He was really licking his large wound so have bandaged him and seems to be doing trick. He's such a good little lad.

If anyone wants to see just how cute he and his brother are, they have their own instagram page: Fluffballcity! https://www.instagram.com/fluffballcity/

I am just waiting and watching him like a hawk as I want to see him eat something.. Have been syringe feeding him and giving him water with Avipro in it.

I think I will sleep downstairs with the little dude tonight. His brother is currently giving him kisses.. Aww

They can stress us out sometimes, can't they?
I am going through a terrible bunny illness patch at the moment, so I really do empathise.

Oh bless what delightful little fluffsters

Hopefully his surgical wound will heal quickly. You are obviously taking great care of him. What meds has he been discharged with ? I would expect him to need some analgesic cover for a few days and maybe some prokinetics (gut motility stimulating) meds.

How is he doing this morning ?

What wonderful little cuties

Hope he's a bit more comfortable this morning, hoping that thecresults show nothing serious x

Hi everyone

Thanks again for the lovely posts.

He has started to pass poos again, his appetite still isn't great which is concerning me a bit. He has meloxicam for painkiller.

He is currently sat in the sun by the patio door which I'm sure will do him some good.

I won't relax until I see him chomping hay. I have tried all sorts to get him eating, he did eat done banana last night but not this morning. I am syringe feeding him.

He is much stronger than last night or I would worry.

Have you tried offering him some fresh herbs. Coriander is usually very popular. Also, lately my Rabbits are going mad for Cavolo Nero (Black Cabbage). In fact it was the latter which got one of my poorly Bunnies eating again.

It is still early days after his op' and the fact that he has started to pass some poo is good news :)

Oh yes mine are herb fanatics Jack's Jane!

Have just gone out and bought some spring greens. He looks like he wants to eat it but doesn't have appetite at moment. Also just tried him on banana which he ate a little of last night.

I just hate syringing as they really don't like it.

At this point I wouldn't get fixated on him eating hay.
He can get fibre in other ways, from fresh grass and forage - especially tree leaves :)

Readigrass is also a tasty source of fibre, as is fibafirst sticks which some bunnies go crazy for :D

I also feed my rabbits rose leaves and herbs such as parsley, dill and coriander - if you break the stalks it releases aromas and so sometimes encourages appetite.

Hi guys

Just a quick update on Benny Jr.

I am pleased you say he has been nibbling on a fresh hawthorn branch with its tasty new leaves, he has eaten some new growth brambles and some hay and dandelion.

He quite remarkably is leaving his wound alone in the main.

It's now a waiting game to see what the growth actually is.
