Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ringworm - Experience with Beaphar Anti-Ringworm Spray

SelinaB

New Kit
Hi everyone!

I have 4 rabbits, one has been diagnosed with ringworm.
Seeing as our vet is charging £100 for treatment per rabbit (!), I was looking into getting adequate medicine over the counter.

I've come across the Beaphar Anti-Ringworm Spray and the Beaphar Deep Clean Disinfectant spray.
Has anyone got experience with these products?
The active ingredient is Miconazole (10mg/ml)

Thank you so much in advance!

Best,
Selina

I do not have any experience of using the product myself. There is some information about Ringworm, the treatment and dose rates etc, on here :

Hi there Selina and welcome to the forum

There's some info about ringworm here - though the photos of the rabbits are quite gruesome as they represent the very worst cases:

I haven't used that spray, though I can see it contains one of the ingredients listed in the link I've posted. You don't know whether the concentration would be adequate for the job though ..

Are all four rabbits showing the same symptoms? You know how contagious it can be to humans, don't you?

I can quite understand that's a lot to pay!

Another option may be to ask for a prescription from your vet and buy the medication online.
Do you know what your vet was suggesting you use? You could ring up and discuss this.

I know the oral liquid for a kitten we had a few years ago was nearly £80 a bottle - but it would have done several smaller animals.
