Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Arce's not eating

Arce (and Elphie) are back at the vets today. We had a glimmer of hope this morning, but by 10 she was back to her "old" ways, so she'll be getting an xray done. She briefly ate willingly, but after meds refused everything. She passed some microscopic poop with a lot of mucous, and has been fighting hard against being medicated and fed. Hoping it will start getting to the bottom of this stasis episode.

I hope that they will find the cause soon, and that it’s nothing serious. Sending more hugs and vibes xx

She's had her xray done and there's no blockage. Which is fantastic news, especially as S has deemed her current condition as being 'inoperable'. The premed for the xray however, made Arce feel better and she started eating more. Which means... is this bout of stasis due to pain? Possibly her joints? I can pick the ladies up at 6pm again, as S wants to keep Arce in for more obs. Then we'll see where we go from there.

...also is it weird of me to want a copy of my rabbit's xray?

I usually want a copy of everything, human and animal, so I don't forget whats been said to me :)

Glad there's no blockage suspected. I hope you find the cause though ...

I'm glad there's no blockage. I hope the vet can now establish what's causing the pain. Sending lots more vibes for her.

Still no closer to figuring out what is triggering this stasis episode...

She's home with Elphie. She is also a lot brighter and actively grooming. However, there is maybe a tiny sign of arthritis, and definitely signs of some small bladder stones. But she's still 'inoperable' and not eating right. So we can't even think about investigating the stones yet. We've been sent home with some metacam now, to use in addition to what we already have.

I'm pleased to see Arce is brighter. Hopefully the Metacam will make her feel better and her appetite improve so that any ivestgations needed can be carried out.

Sending vibes for Arce.

I'm glad there was no blockage found.

Would the vets consider trialing her on just pain relief for a week and see if she begins eating for herself with the gut mobility Meds?
It should be easy to see if pain is a cause in this case as once the pain subsides she'll start eating and you'll know it's not just her gut Meds making her want to eat and you'll know within 4 hours if it's the pain or not so could easily add in the gut Meds again.

I'm hoping we don't end up there tomorrow - I don't want to go every day this week! Regardless, I'm there on Friday, seeing Z (Erasmus RHD2 and Aurora beak trim) so can ask then. Thank you for the suggestion, dp, I'm definitely going to bring it up.

And honestly, I don't know how I'd have managed without everyone's continual support for the two of us. It means the world.

Oh God, I remember the literally 'every other day' vet visits (a four hour round trip ) with my bun - needed specialist equipment ... and it's so wearing!!!

Loads of vibes for Arce. I shall be thinking of you both overnight xx

Sending more vibes for your lovely Arce. I hope there has been some improvement overnight.

I am hoping for an overnight improvement.

You've enough going on in your life right now, without the added stress of a little sickie bun xx

Arce must have finally received all your vibes today. She's been behaving much more like her normal self all day. She ate her breakfast and dinner with the whole group, came running for it with them and partaking in the 'feeding time typhoon'. She shared a lunch for 2 with Elphie as well, and has even had a little hay today. I'm very happy with her. Will discuss dp's suggestion with Z tomorrow, during Erasmus/Aurora's appointments. :)

Because I didn't call the vets this morning - they called me, especially to check in with us, to see how we were doing. They were also very pleased to hear about Arce's turnaround. And I was touched that they chose to check in with us too.

Thank you everyone, for all the support, from me, OH, and Arce. I will update tomorrow to say what Z thinks we should do next, in these early post-stasis days.
