I have been bonding neutered male Melbourne and newly rescued neutered female Biscuit for a few weeks now with a couple of minor set backs. They took to eachother very quickly with Biscuit being the more dominant bun but once back in Melbourne’s old living space (neutralised as far as possible) he decided he wanted to be dominant and lots of chasing and humping ensued so we decided to seperate them and continue the bonding process with short introductions in a neutral space whilst living side by side, this went on for about 10 days until they seemed to have mostly resolved their hierarchy. They cuddle and groom a lot but Melbourne still occasionally humps but Biscuit runs away and he doesn’t persist.
They’re currently living in a neutral space (pen in spare room) and have been there nearly a week. We need to reintroduce them to the living room (Melbourne’s previous territory) at some point. But when would it be considered safe to do so? If they have a firm bond is it ok to put back in non neutral space or do we need to be very careful about cleaning everything up?
We are slightly concerned we will never get our flat back and will need pens up forever!
Thanks for any advice!
