Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poor old lumpy Bob

My poor old boy. Bob is 11 years old now and in the last 2 months has had a huge lump appear on one side of his face. I had hoped this was just an abscess, but antibiotics had little effect and we held our breath and sent him in to go under GA and have it lanced yesterday. It's not an abscess. It had no puss and is inoperable to remove as it goes behind his eye and soft pallet. They've taken a biopsy and it's gone to the lab and we'll find out if it's a weird puss-less abscess or *gulp* a tumour next week.

Meanwhile, he's lost all his molar teeth on the lump side of his face but still is managing to eat, poop and bop about his room with his sister. OH and chase poor Pat at dinnertime.

Paws crossed for lab results!

Worrying :( Vibes for Bob

Did you know he had lost some teeth or did they just come out of their own free will? My Freddie will be 10 next month. Hope the results come back clear.

Didn’t know! I found something I thought was a claw a few months ago, must have been a tooth and he’s swallowed the rest. Vet said no sign of redness or soreness inside the mouth, even though the swelling is impacting on one side, so that’s good at least.

All the healing and non-sinister test result vibes I can muster on the way for dear Bob. He looks a lot like my Mimzy. xxxx

Results are in for Bob. He has a "soft tissue sarcoma". That's a type of tumour but fortunately not the type to spread around the body to the organs, which was the biggest worry. Apparently a side effect of Loxicom is that it can reduce the size of this type of sarcoma, so going to try that for a bit and see how we get on. He's still fine in himself fortunately.

I hope that Bob remains well in himself and that the Metacam will bring about some reduction in the size of the tumour xx

Sending lots of vibes for Bob. How interesting that Loxicom can reduce the size of a Sarcoma. I really hope it does in Bob's case.

What a lovely old chap. The NSAID's help sarcoma and other cancers by not just reducing pain and swelling, but by blocking the effects of certain enzymes. These enzymes help cancer cells reproduce and spread.
