New Kit
Hi guys, I just wanted to get some advice here. Recently my rabbit has been having red pee (for the past week or so) and at first I ignored it. I am aware that I did recently re-introduced some leafy greens and fruits, mostly kale, sweetheart cabbage, and raspberries after she had around a month without. I did think it was just pigmentation and high beta carotine levels in her system so I decided to cut back a little, and this soon led to me cutting out all of these foods in general. Now she is just eating regular rabbit nuggets, water and hay but the redness still persists and I am beginning to think it may be much more serious. I have now noticed quite a few clumps in with the redness, and it definitely seems more like globs of blood than overall pigmentation. The clumps I am very concerned about, the latest one I took to analyse, and it was a stringy squidgy substance covered in blood. I thought it was diarrhea but it doesn't break away or squish flat with acute pressure, t's quite spongy and does not look like feces at ALL. Very hard to explain, but it reminds me of a minced beef likeness.
For some background information: I have had Hermione for 6 going on 7 years, I rescued her but at an unknown age. I would've guessed she was about 1 1/2, but I am definitely not an expert on that front. So I'd say she is getting on in her years (though she has the attitude and energy of a young 'un haha!) I have heard of uterine cancers and infections, however most of what I read imply that the rabbit has to be intact and Hermione is spayed.
Despite the blood and clumps, she seems very well in herself, she isn't lethargic or refusing food, definitely not depressed.
I haven't yet seen her in the action of peeing, so I do not know if she has any pain with it, but I plan on spending the whole day with her as it is the weekend, and I'll keep close watch.
I purchased a dipstick test, I'm pretty sure it's not the carotine but I'd like to be sure, and it'd give some insight to what is in her pee.
Thank you for reading! If you can help or offer advice please put any suggestions below, I do plan to see a vet soon especially if it persists, but I might be a lot clearer on all this with you help! Thank you! :bunny:
