Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sick bunny -big weight lose-help

Vet said that it will take up to 14 days for her to be normal. She had everything at once, bloody urine, GI and then her teeth trimmed. She was on antibiotics for more then 14days all together so her stomach is probably still recovering. I dont know i really try everything i can and buy everything for her to feel better but it is a slow process. I dont know what else i can do. i will start researching if i can find a vet in my country that knows rabbit better then just basic things... But i still hope for her to get better.

Yes you really are trying everything you can for her.

Maybe she will be like my rabbit, a complete mystery but eventually felt better and began to eat again.

I know that some UK Exotics Specialist Vets will accept enquiries for advice from Vets in other Countries. One place to start could be to speak with your Vet and ask if they would be happy to try to do that on your behalf. Here are a couple of suggestions of whom your Vet may try to get in touch with :

https://www.ed.ac.uk/vet/services/small-animals/services/rabbit-exotic-practice

https://www.rvc.ac.uk/beaumont-sain...specialist-services/exotics-and-small-mammals

Even if they cannot help they may be able to point your Vet toward an Exotics Specialist who can give some input/advice to a Vet overseas xx

I dont know :( i feel like a such bad bunny parent :( She is still the same, not eating enough alone and i have to force feed her, problem now is that i have to go back to work (im oncology ICU nurse) so i have to work a lot. i feed her at 4am before work and then after 2pm when i get back and after that every 3h. I'm failing her so bad :( i Started giving her Hamp oil 0,5ml a day (i called her vet about it). Thank got i did find a new vet in my city that supposed to be an exotic pet vet, i'm calling her tomorow for an appointment next week. During the weekend i will force feed her on 2h and hopefully she wil get better i i wil get a date by new vet. Im scared that she has stenosis of the gut because of her GI :( i hope new vet will know what its wrong, because i dont think teeth are the problem now, its been 9 days since trimming. i feel so bad because i can help her, vet said she is old but she is only 5 years old and never had such problems :( People are literally telling me i'M crazy for spending so much money on my bunny for vets, but she is more then just a bunny for me and im so scared for her. i'm so sorry for complaining so much but i don't have other people to talk to about bunnys beside here, i'm literally know as crazy bunny girl at work but nobody understand me :/ i just want my happy bunny who loved eating veggies and treats back :/

You are certainly trying hard with your little one.

I hope that the vet you have found will be able to spot something going on with her.

And you are right, 5 years is no age at all for a rabbit.

However, you are keeping her alive and well by syringe feeding her. I know it's not a long term solution, but for the time being you are definitely keeping her as well as you can. :)

You are trying everything possible to try to help Nana. I do hope that the Vet you have just located may be able to shed some more light on what could be going on. I know what it is like to be thought of as 'just that crazy Bunny lady', heck I am used to being seen as 'crazy' full stop !! But you and I know just how special a Rabbit can be, a Soul Mate. An irreplaceable friend and one for whom we would do everything within our power to try to help.

Nana will know that she has you by her side and she will always take comfort from that. Please continue to post when you can. I certainly dont think you are 'complaining', you are showing what it is to truly love and care for a Rabbit. If only everyone were able to do that xx

So i tried to get a date with new vet but she is on holidays till monday so im calling her then. I still feed Nana with mix, she did eat her veggies and little hay but still bot enough. Her poops are little bigger but there is not a lot of them. I dont think her teeths are the problem now. I think hemp oil does help her.

This is the poop situatione now. They are better then before. I roderd online oxbow supp for her (vitamin c, multivitamin, digestive, skin and cout, urinary support, senior support) should i crush them and mix them with her food when i force feed her when i get them? I didnt find critical care on the side that shipp to slovenia :(

You could try crushing the Oxbow Support tabs into Nana's syringe feeds. At least she has some output, even though it is still not normal.

OMG THANK YOU!!!! I couldnt find it on other web sides. I will order it right now for my bunny. Omg thank you soo much!!!!!!!!

I order it! Thank you again. Stupid question but how much and how many times do you feed your bunns with critical care?

You are very welcome :D

Regarding how much to give and when, that will depend on how much Nana weighs and how much other food she is eating by herself, when you would be just topping up her food rather than replacing. It will also give some advice on the packet. Not a stupid question at all

So there are no improvements in Nana’s health. She is still not eating enough alone. I still feed her. I did notice that she is more agresive sometimes. But good news is that she didnt loose weight since last week. I did call special vet and got a date on tuesday. Im getting oxbow supp. tomorow and critical care by friday so i hope that by then o will know whats wrong with her.

So she is seeing the special vet tomorrow Dina?

UPDATE

so i took Nana to special vet who made whole body xray and we found out she has calcination on her kidneys, that is causing her pain and thats why she is not eating. For now vet said she should get Spasmex every 12h for view days and then we will see how it goes. We didnt decide for blood test because its done in GA and she doesnt respons well on GA so we will wait with it. I still have to force feed her but only 3-4times a day, she does eatst fresh veggies and little bit of hay alone so vet said that enough. she weights + - 2000g now. I hope Spasmex works and she starts to eat more alone. She said there are some surgerys for that but are not always successful so for now i didnt decide for agressive treatment. I feel so bad for that but i dont want to cause her more pain and stress. Does anyone have any experience with kidney problem by rabbits? i am kind of lost right now. i'm loosing her little by little :( Today is 5 years since i got her :( not a good news for today, but im happy that i know whats wrong.
does anyone have any advice for me?

I am sorry to hear that Dana has renal calcification. It is quite a common problem in Pet Rabbits, unfortunately. There is some information about the condition on the following links :

And some information about dietary calcium:

I hope that the Spasmex may help reduce the severity of her renal pain xx
