  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

HELP! Paralyzed rabbit

Cookie is partially paralyzed. I’ve been giving her vitamin D, salt, and formula (goats milk with whipping cream) and she’s somewhat going better. She was almost completely paralyzed but now she can move her legs and her arms a little bit. Please help me. What do I do now? I know what caused it and I know what not to do anymore, just please give me solutions ASAP!

You need to take Cookie to a Vet straight away, assuming you have not already done so. You say you 'know what caused' the partial paralysis, what caused it ?

Whilst it is essential that you seek Veterinary attention straight away (if you have not already done so) I will post some links about paralysis/paresis in Rabbits.

The following information is no substitute for immediate Veterinary care for your Rabbit

All the vets are closed and won’t be open until another 9 hours!! She has lack of Vitamin d because she rarely went outside... I need to do something I’m really scared.

From what you have described I think your rabbit will be in pain :(

In my view therefore I think you should seek help for her from an emergency vet. She will at the very least be needing some medication to control her pain.

I agree that your rabbit should be taken urgently to a rabbit savvy vet for treatment.

If you call your normal vets number it should direct you to their out of hours provider, best of luck for you and Cookie xx

I don’t know if I’ll be getting another rabbit. I feel so empty right now and I don’t think it’s ever going to change. thanks for your help anyway.
