  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

'old' rabbit insurance

I remember reading somewhere an insurance company that provides cover for "old" rabbits. Age 5+ ... can anyone remember the company name?

I'd also be really interested in this, plus any more general (any age) bunny insurance that people have found best value over the years.
...having spent £236 today for X-ray and cannulation (why didn't they warn me before I booked?? how is it more than a spay??), I am gradually coming round to the idea that it might be a good idea to get some decent fluffies-cover!!

Thank you for starting the thread, DaphnePhoebe!

You had dental X-rays taken as well :) An X-ray (just one) costs around £80 - £100.

I didn't say before, but I have all the kit to flush tear ducts here at home. My vet sanctioned it years ago.
That should get tongues wagging

The trouble is, with the treatment of the tearduct (flush) it's unlikely the insurance will cover this in future.
And if it can be related to the teeth in anyway they also won't cover any dental treatment.

It's still good for things like stasis and any accidents but sadly by waiting these will now be preexisting conditions :(
