  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Are rabbits eyes half shut after dental or GA

I know it sounds strange but doughnuts eyes aren't open so much. It's like they are sort of smaller like she's sleepy. Also above her eye the fur is sticking out like it's got wet and stayed in a funny place. Normally she has big eyes. She's fine otherwise eating and happy. Maybe she's still tired. Just wondered if others have this experience

My bun sometimes looks sleepy when he has pain meds.
I don't know but do they put something over rabbits eyes when operating?
I've seen it on tv when they operate on animals and they cover their eyes (presumably so that they are protected during surgery).

It's probably due to the lubricant that is put into the Rabbits eyes to protect the cornea during a GA. When under anaesthetic there is no blink reflex x

Eye lubricant is used during anaesthesia to protect the eyes from drying out, and from the oxygen.

Scary article (human) here:

One of my rabbits had a big op earlier this week and came home in the same condition :)

Oh right I didn't realise. Yes looks like her fur is funny around her eye. That's all for explaining.
