  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Doughnuts having her first dental any advice?

I noticed doughnut was making a clicking noise. Eating normally no dribbling or watery eyes. The vet said she's got a big spur on one of her back teeth. She's going in next Friday

Should I expect anything when she comes out. I'm guessing I'll have pain relief. Just wondered how everyone's bunnies reacted to it afterwards. He said she won't need regular dentals this should do it. I think I've been very lucky considering she's got such a flat face as she's nearly 7 now

I've just read your other thread about Doughnuts clicking, so pleased that your lovely vet has found the cause. My Treacle (Doughnuts "twin" sister ) has had quite a few dentals, the last one being nearly 10 weeks ago. I usually just put her back in her room, and leave her quietly to sleep it off. She might take a few wet herbs, and a few nuggets mixed with a little drop of Ella's Kitchen (apple and banana goes down well) she's usually pooped by bedtime and almost back to normal the next day. I'm sure your lovely girlie will be fine xx

What medication she may or may not need after her Dental will depend on exactly what Mark finds during the procedure. Sometimes it may be necessary to prescribe a NSAID for a few days. Given Doughnut's know GI tract problems Mark may think it advisable to prescribe prokinetics for a few days too.

Brilliant. Thanks for the advice. She only has muesli and hay but I did say to him about introducing herbs again and he said yes so will get some in to tempt her as know they normally want fresh food
Thanks for the links Jane. I'll have a read. I always like to know exactly what's happening. Like you say it depends what he finds.
