  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Buck Neuter

What is the best age to get Baxter done? He's 12 weeks old and I'd like to get him neutered at some point in the near future.

Thanks.

I would advise at around 4 months. He should weigh at least 1 kg and his testicles should have descended.

there's some good info here:

12 weeks is often fine if his testicles have dropped and he's a good weight. A vet might prefer to wait another month.

When you take him for his vaccinations, ask the vet about neutering/age etc :)

Brilliant, thank you. His plums have dropped already so we are on track lol

Ooh, I didn't know about vaccinations! Does he still need them if he's a house/indoor only bunny? We live in a high rise flat, no outside space :(

Yes, it's advisable to get all bunnies vaccinated regardless of indoors or outdoors ...

There are two vaccinations, advisable to leave two weeks between them.

One is the novibac myxo combi vaccine, and the other is a newer Filavac, which covers the new strain of VHD: VHD2

More info on VHD2 here:

RHD is the same thing as VHD :)
