Please may I have some vibes for Nancy? **New Update p24****

An update on Nancy.

She has a clear bacterial infection - 2 types of bacteria were present as was evidence of miniscule crystals. She has been started off on a 14 day course of Baytril which I collected after work today. The Baytril will definitely help with one bacteria - but may not help with the other. He did give me the names of other antibiotics which may be needed if she does not respond to the Baytril but I cannot remember them!

Her blood test was more or less ok. Her glucose level was normal, liver enzyme (?) was slightly raised but not enough to cause concern. Nothing obvious showed up to indicate kidney issues. Given that other than the 'wee' problem she is fine in herself with no weight loss or loss of appetite, she had not been tested for EC. I had no idea her symptoms could be caused by EC - it was suggested by a Facebook friend - I thought EC presented with neurological symptoms.

The upshot of all of the above is that she has a follow up appointment on Friday 19th to see how she is after 10 days of Baytril and she will have new tests.

If she has not improved she will need to have a scan of her bladder to see what is going on and will also be tested for EC:cry:

I hope the Baytril will clear it all up.

My bun had something similar and had a couple of antibiotics (and X-ray and bloods) before it cleared up.
But it did in the end! :)

Thanks MM. That is reassuring about your bunny.

Nancy was back at the vets on Friday for a follow up appointment. A further urine sample was obtained and sent to the lab for analysis.

My vet called today to advise that the sample was clear of infection.:D

However there was still evidence of tiny crystals. As she has no other symptoms and is well in herself, no further investigations are going to be carried out at the moment.

She had her last dose of Baytril yesterday and if she shows signs of infection again in the near future (or any other signs of being unwell) then she will have a bladder xray and possibly be tested for EC.

Glad to hear that the infection has cleared up and that Nancy is doing well within herself. Hopefully no further diagnostics or treatment will be needed xx

Nancy has been to the vet today as she is frequently weeing outside of her litter tray.

My regular vet is on maternity leave however I was very pleased to see Alex who is an Exotics specialist :thumb:

Nancy has had blood and urine samples taken and I hope to have the results early next week.

Other than this and drinking more she is her usual self with no obvious signs of being uncomfortable and she has certainly not lost her appetite.

I am very worried about my big bunny.

Loads of vibes for Nancy xx
