  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Update and question page 3

Sorry I haven't updated it's been a difficult few days. He seemed to briefly improve so we gave him a last go of feeding and meds ect but tomorrow is definitely the day now as he's list alot of weight and I don't want to prolong his suffering, despite not wanting to let him go either. However I want to ask , do I bring his wifey to the vet or leave her at home? What can I expect? I've never been through this before...

:( so sad for you . When I had a bunny PTS her ear was shaved so they could find a vein to administer the drugs. Its gentle looking, peaceful but relatively quick. Personally I would leave wifey bun at home, just because i'd worry what they'd pick up (in terms of vibes from me, my distress etc) x

Hi Lucy

I am sorry you are having to go through this. I always bring the partner rabbit with them, so that they can understand what's happening. I also hold the rabbit myself all the way through the procedure to help allay their fears.

However, you must do what feels right for you. If the partner doesn't come along (and even if they do) can you bring the body home and let the other one see him?

He passed away before being pts.
Details in rainbow bridge section. Thank you everyone for the support.
