  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ear drops - getting them in

It turns out the girls are too loved up and are grooming inside each others ears a bit too much....

I need to do ear drops but I'm running out of ideas. Previously I could distract them to do it... then I had to throw a towel over the top and now I have to attempt to corner them... it's incredibly stressful. Any ideas on what I can try? We only need to do it twice a week now.

Aww bless them!

When we do baileys ear drops or medication, he always gets a treat afterwards and now he's got a little too used to this. We tend to call him over and hold him on the sofa! As he'll stay still fine, if we attempted on the floor, I know he'd leg it! Do you have to massage their ears too, or literally just add it in?

As soon as it's done, he gets a treat and over time, he's so used to this, he won't run off until he has one first!

I managed to do it myself but when I had a difficult bun I got someone to hold bunny..
She full blows attacks the OH if he tries to hold. She won't attack me but OH doesn't feel confident doing drops.

Massage as well. We're due a check soon so I may continue to fight with her and if given all clear we'll stop for a while so I can retrain her.

I had the same problem with an old rex of mine. For me the key is to get someone else to hold them tightly with a towel while you sneakily administer the drops. Then you suddenly appear with some dandelions and they'll still love you.

Do you have a neighbour you don't much like? :D
