Lopsy and Aboleth's new 'toy' INSTALLED (new pics!)

We got a free dog crate from next door (car repair place): as detailed in my thread in Housing, we're hoping to turn it into a semi-permanent new area for them and this post has more pictures of the crate itself as well as the bunnies (and what we plan to do with it, for comment and question). But there are more photos are when we let them out the sun came out. So I thought I'd pop them here.

Lopsy's in the box! Aboleth's wondering if that's particularly tasty mallow...

Aboleth on the move...

The bunnies know Matt brings food. When he crouches down they check his back pockets (which have NEVER contained food!)...

Lopsy did a lot of stretching today: the dog crate ('big bunny box') is ideal for poking things into!

Lopsy also had a go at the dried hawthorn: the other plant in the box is dried willow.

The crate looks pretty substantial. I have used dog crates in the garden for years. They survive quite well. You can put a tarpaulin over the top to give some shelter - I use quite cheap camo ones from ebay, fastened with cable ties. It is quite simple to put a shelf in half way up. You can fasten some wooden battens on - either poke them through the holes across the back and as far forward as you need, or fasten them along the left and right edges inside with screws and very large washers on the outside. You then have runners that you can put a shelf on. Fairly thick external ply or OSB boarding should be fine as they will cope with the damp, especially if painted as well. My rabbits prefer the shelf area as they can look over the garden.

They seem to have herded up a human in a hoodie too............ :?
Matt and I have 'branded' University hoodies from various societies and events (not just 'Uni Of...' hoodies, they're too normal ) and Matt is kinda bald so he wears his most of the time in winter and uses the hood as a hat. It wasn't cold enough outside for him to use both that and the coat hood today! He's a lot less scary from the front because it doesn't reallyt cover his face at all and so you can see his face fuzz (ginger muttonchops).

Has Aboleth only got one eye or is it just the way the photos are?
Yep, she's one-eyed! That's the reason I chose her at the rescue, in case it made her harder to rehome, although she's so lovely I doubt it would have affected her! Only thing we need to worry about is offering her food and treats on her blind side.

It is a really substantial crate, it's just a little broken where one of the welds has failed on the top near the door, but nothing we need to worry about at the moment. Thankyou for the advice, we are definitely using it to put shelves in because ours love heights! I do need another tarp for the run as well so I'll have a look for some deals :)

Installed on Friday! A bit sparse on ledges etc. but we needed to make sure it worked: they've used it but no pics of that :)
