Where did your rabbit come from?

Lucky - adopted from a family together with her companion guinea pig after said family got dogs and their children lost interest in the rabbit and the guinea pig.
Toffy - came from a local pet shop that no longer sells pets. Bought her to cheer up the guinea pig that fell into depression after Lucky died.
Willow - came from Pets at Home. Long story. Got into a bit of a mid-life crisis after Toffy died; eventually I was given a rabbit holder's licence from the wife as a present, redeemable for one male rabbit, cannot be white. Went to Pets at Home, post Easter sale, Willow was left there sitting in the bargain basement, I couldn't leave her there. Effectively she was free as I got a free vaccination voucher for her, which cost the same amount as the vaccination and I would have had her vaccinated anyway. She was a clear case of mis-selling under the Sale of Goods act as I was told she was a buck until they wrapped her up and the vet said, oops, that's a doe, sorry. And on top of that, she is mostly white.
Charlie - came from a school farm, I can't tell you which school. I saw him sitting in a cage, offered to adopt him and they eventually agreed to sell him to me. Now husbun to Willow.

What a story

It's funny how things happen. Not to plan most of the time, but work out exactly right :)

Past and current rabbits over my whole life. The only gap I've been without rabbits was between Lily dying when I was a toddler and getting Bonnie when I was 2.

Lily - I'm not sure, my parents got her before I was born and I forget where they said they got her. They learned later that she was a flemish giant - they got her as a baby bunny and had no idea that she was going to get so big!

Bonnie, Ginger, & Sugar - From a breeder. I was 2/3 when my parents got them for me and my sisters. Bonnie was purchased from this breeder awhile before, and then later on we got Ginger and Sugar as Easter presents. Sugar was 'mine'. My parents always bought us pets even if we were very little but the pets were always family pets and cared for by everyone when we were really young.

Chloe & Harry - From the mall. I was 9 at the time and my parents bought them as surprise gifts/sort of birthday gifts for me and my siblings. I think they just couldn't pass them up as they were such adorable fuzzy little baby buns (I think they were American Fuzzy Lops).

April, Rusty & Gypsy - From a local pet store. My parents and siblings picked them out for my 11th birthday. I think the pet store took them in from people who didn't want them anymore, although they were all baby bunnies. Gypsy was slightly older than the other two as she was bought to take pictures of for a magazine and then brought to the pet store (she was an English lop, so 'unique' looking for pictures). If I remember correctly, April and Rusty were saved by the pet store staff as they were intended to be snake food by whoever had them before.

Sunny, Izzy & Raven - From another local pet store. They were originally from a show breeder but had some disqualifying marks so couldn't be showed and were sold to the pet store. I chose them for my 13th birthday and then my parents picked them up when I was at school and surprised me with them.

Jack - Someone dumped him and another rabbit on a pet store's doorstep. This was at a small (mainly Floridian) pet store chain, but they weren't allowed to sell them by store policy so the employees were trying to find homes for them and my parents were at the store to buy dog food and stopped to look at the rabbits being sold in the store. The employees saw them looking and asked my parents if they wanted Jack. I guess Jack and the other rabbit (who had already been given away) were an accidental litter someone had. I was 16 and at home at the time so my parents surprised me and my brother with Jack when they got home. I could tell it was an animal (they asked us to go out to the car and there was a box there) but I wasn't expecting Jack! lol

Ben & Timmy - From craigslist. I had just turned 17 that month and I wanted a nethie so was looking on craigslist. I ended up finding Ben & Timmy (not nethies but maybe nethie crosses or maybe polish). I take it they were an unwanted impulse buy as the boyfriend bought them from a pet store 2 weeks earlier as an Easter present for his girlfriend. They already had what seemed to be an impulse buy goat in their house that they were trying to put up a fence outside for so I guess they had their hands full.

Thanks for posting all that William :)

Rabbits were always pets I had wanted as a child. I'm definitely making up for it now!

An impulse buy goat .. that's a new one on me :D

My boys, Jack and William, came from an ad on Facebook, before the sale of animals was banned (thank goodness!). I'm at least their third home - the man I collected them from said they'd been gotten for his daughters who weren't interested any more. They were closed in a 3ft hutch, with a sprinkling of sawdust and no hay, unneutered and only being fed carrots and museli, both underweight and matted.

Lucky they hadn't had fights with fatal injuries :(

I saw a rabbit the other day on a free-ads site. He was four months old, the children no longer wanted him because they were bored. In a small cage with a bit of sawdust and a bowl of water and nothing else. What a terrible life :(

At least you rescued Jack and William and are giving them a fresh chance x

My first rabbits, Archie and Molly were born in rescue after their mum was given up, Joey was an ex breeding bunny I got him from a rescue in Essex (found through another forum) Izzie was from the same rescue as Archie and Molly and was found on the dual carriageway, not sure whether she'd been dumped somewhere or got out of a garden but it scares me to think what could of happened :( Beans was from my boyfriends sister, who accidentally got a male and a female and had a litter.

Gosh, I shudder to think what might have happened to Molly given those circumstances, has she not been found ..
