Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mijito operation

Hello all,

Yesterday I've been in my local vet and Mijito had been operated, the vet open the ball and cleaned all the infection, my little lovely rabbit was fine, we arrived home and he started eating!!

He had now a hole in the face which I have to cure with boiled water and one spoon of salt twice a day and we have to go to the vet to inject him penicillin everyday during 7 or 9 days. Vet said that this kind of operation and after the penicillin worked in other rabbits.

I suggested her to make a X RAY to see the teeth, (the roots) and a cultive from the eye, but she explained me that she is so sure that this is related to the teeth and the X RAY costs £300 which I will waste them. So I follow the advise and I operate him. (just open the ball and clean the infection).

She says that the remove of the teeth doesn't guarantee another teeth in a while giving him more problems.

Thanks all for your support and useful advises.

kind regards,

Nerea

I hope that the surgery and ongoing antibiotic treatment are successful :)
