  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Infected wound following hind leg amputation (update)

26/11/2017 - So we made the heartbreaking decision to have our bugs put to sleep on tuesday. He had MRSP in his wound so was unlikely to heal but more to the point he lost his 'spark'. We always said that as long as he was fighting we would do everything possible for him. But he more or less overnight went from a bunny whose head popped up everytime there was a noise - to not even lifting his head to eat. He also bit me.....and i mean really bit me on Tuesday and in all the time we have owned him and all he went through he never so much as nipped - I suspect he was telling us enough is enough. If I am honest - I think he would have passed away anyway - but I wasn't prepared to let him suffer.

I would love to put a picture up for you all to see him - but I am not sure how to do that.

but thank you to everyone for the advice along the way.

I am so sorry to hear this :(

You loved him so much, it was the right decision xx

I'm very sorry.
You did your very best and, ultimately, made the heartbreaking but kindest decision.

It does sound as though he was telling you his time had come. You knew & loved him well enough to understand that & give him a dignified passing. Sleep well Bugs x

It would be lovely to see a photo of him. I can PM you my email address if you'd like to email me his photograph & post it on here
