  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please can I have some vibes for Fudgie

Yes that's a long time to wait. I've always been told to ring when I want to at my specialist but they ask the nurse not the vet how she is. I've called in the morning just to find out if she's had a good night. I'm sure they won't mind if you did call . Anyway pleased the phone didn't ring and it all sounds positive. Lots of hugs for you and vibes little one xx

Glad to hear no calls during the night but I too would defo ring first thing, 12 is ages away, besides she is your baby and you won't settle until you hear. Ring them soon xxx

Thank you very much everyone xxx

Well the good news is that I haven't had any phone calls from the vet overnight (I've never wanted a phone NOT to ring so badly in my life!)

I'm not sure if they will call me with an update this morning. The vet did say they would only ring if her condition deteriorates and if I don't hear from them it means everything is ok. Kind of no news is good news. Otherwise I have to call them after 12 when the vet has finished the rounds. It feels like an awful long time to wait but I do understand they have a lot of sick animals to look after and they have to have a system in place otherwise the vets would spend most of their time on the phone to their owners instead of treating them!

Sending hugs and hoping for good news xxx

Finally some good news! She has passed a good number of poos this morning and has started to eat more for herself. She is being discharged with some meds this evening as the vet thinks she will continue to improve more at home. Obviously if she starts to backwards then I'll take her straight back. Thanks so much everyone for the magical RU vibes ❤️❤️❤️

I have been almost tearing my hair out all morning though. I've been repeatedly trying to phone the hospital but none of the calls were connecting. I started to panic thinking the hospital had tried to call last night with bad news and couldn't get through. In the end I couldn't stand it any longer and was putting my shoes on to go down there in person when the vet called with the good news. I almost cried with relief. I'm just off out now to get her some more fresh herbs to encourage her to keep eating when she gets home. ❤️

Oh sooo pleased to read this, good girl Fudgie! I know that feeling of relief when you hear they have pooped. She will be glad to be home and will get better quicker there.

Scrappy I am so so relieved to hear this! As per our PM's, I was worried about the little darling!!!!

Go Fudgie and eat all those herbs. xx

Well she's home! She is a bit quiet as I expected. At the moment she's sitting in her litter tray. She had a nibble on a strand of hay but not much more. She hasn't been home long and I'm sure she's tired and a bit disorientated after everything so I'm leaving her alone for now but keeping a careful eye on her. If she doesn't eat a bit more I'll start syringe feeding her again later tonight just to make sure she's got food in her belly.

Wonderful news! I am so so happy for you xxx

She still hasn't eaten much so I've given her a couple of syringe feeds. One at 10 and one just now at 1. I'm going to leave her alone now until about 6 and see how she's doing. She was very feisty which is very reassuring and took the syringe feeds really well. I think she actually likes the stuff!

When I did the second feed I noticed she smelt awful. I checked her bottom and there was a lot of fresh soft poo. I guess that wouldn't be unusual given she's been having gut problems, the medicines and not eating much hay? I couldn't leave her in that state so I cleaned her up, although I was worried about stressing her out while she's recovering from gut stasis.

At this stage I don't know how long it will be before her hay eating returns to normal and wondered if I should go to my usual vet tomorrow and get her some fibreplex?

I don't have any advice regarding fibreplex, but I'm glad to hear she's feisty over her feeds as it shows she's spirited and wanting to fight.

Sending lots more vibes for Fudgie. I hope she starts to eat a bit more for herself today.

Topping up the vibes for fudgie!

I'm so glad she's home, and really hope she'll start to pick up again soon bless her. How's she doing this morning?

Hope you're okay too? Xx

Thanks both. [emoji3] She is doing ok this morning. She's nibbling bits which is good but I'm going to carry on topping her up with syringe feeds for now until her eating picks up a bit more. No more poo stuck to her bum this morning although her poor fur is horribly stained. I have to pop into my vet this morning anyway to pick up some more recovery food so I'll ask for some advice on her exploding bottom!
