  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pippin update with results

It must be extremely frustrating and stressful for you. It sounds as though the problem is complex and maybe what started as a physiological response to some sort of discomfort has now evolved into a behavioural/psychological issue.

A couple of ideas to store away for future reference 'just incase' - There have been reports of some success in treating fur pulling/self mutilation/constant itching in animals by giving Acupuncture. Some Vets will dismiss the idea, but others do embrace some complimentary therapies when conventional medicine draws a blank

Luckily my Vet is one who does just that

Then there are cases of the use of Fluoxetine (Prozac !) for treating Psychogenic Acral Lick Dermatitis in Rabbits

Neither option may be appropriate for your Rabbit, but just thought I'd mention them anyway x
Thanks Jacks Jane. I will take a look. My mum is talking to a homeopathic vet to see if they have any ideas. I'm open to all options and my vet is happy for us to try other options too.

I will be really interested to see what happens! Good that your vet is open minded :)

I'll keep you all in the loop. Archie's bday pressies has arrived so I'm sure they'll be some more photos later of basket mayhem. :)

Yes I know!
I have warned Mervinius that there should be a *cuteness alert* when posting photos, but I think she forgets this [emoji38]
Haha. I did nearly put a cuteness alert on that one. I might have to put it on all my pictures from now on! So you can all be *prepared* x
