Holland Lop Rene got in a fight, trauma, not eating, weak

Dungeness

New Kit
In addition to our male Netherland Dwarf with the parasite issue, we have his cage mate that now has a problem. While trying to help Percy (the ND), we accidentally left the door unlatched and didn't notice it. So that afternoon, one of the other rabbits, probably another female lop, got after Rene and by the time we found out, Rene was very weak. There is a bite mark on her neck / back area but it only appears to be in the skin. Rene is weak and is not eating or drinking very much. This happened Saturday and we have been force feeding her food and water in addition to what she might have had on her own. We did see her drink from a bowl once on here own. The interesting thing is that when we give her some food, (apple sauce for example in a syringe), we can't see much of a swallow except for once in a while. Not much licking of her lips either.

We are treating her with Fenbendazole since she was in direct contact with Percy.

Rene just lies down and rest most of the time. Could she have been so roughed up by the other female that she has been traumatized? Is there any way to help her out if that is the case?

Any other ideas on this?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Have you taken her to a Vet ? If not I would suggest you do so as a matter of urgency. Your Doe is clearly in some distress and she may require treatment. Some bite wounds can turn very nasty and lead to an abscess developing. Rabbit abscesses are a real challenge to resolve so the sooner any problem is addressed (by a Vet) the better the prognosis.

Not only may your Doe have some injuries sustained in the fight she sounds to be heading toward gut stasis too, gut stasis is a condition that always requires Veterinary attention

Your Doe sounds to be feeling quite poorly ('not eating/not moving'), this could be due to pain and/or stress. I do hope that you can get her to a Vet today. Good luck x

I am so sorry to read this. What a spell of bad luck you are having :(

It sounds like she may be in gut stasis, which may or may not be connected with the bite that she sustained. She could have been traumatised, but the only way to get her the treatment she needs is by seeing a rabbit savvy vet as soon as possible.

There's some reading on here concerning stasis:

Wow, bad day. We made it to the first vet and they thought it might be teeth but sent us to another vet. Upon arriving, 1 hour away, Rene was going down fast. They did an x-ray which showed normal, then tried some fluid and she died. Everyone was upset. They will take a look this evening and see if they could find anything but I have not heard from them yet.

Thanks so much.

Thanks everyone. She was a pretty bunny and really liked roaming around in the garden.

Here is the report from the Vet.

Necrosy results: Kidneys were very pale with areas of hemorrhaege. One area of hemarrhage in lungs. Heart may be slightly enlarged (borderline/unsure). Lots of intrabdominal fat. _
