  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pippin update

Yes I would not leave her either with a vest on if I was at work either. My Rosie was part nethie and was a fietsy girl so I understand! But she was alot weaker when we had to put a vest on so didn't fight too much :( but yes she did lick it but reduced the amount of licking a little. I guess like you I was willing to try anything.

Thanks Nicky. I'll talk to OH when he gets home and see what he thinks. Yes when she's poorly is the only time I can scoop her up. At the moment though she is full on wriggly, although she never bites of scratches.

I was hoping the vets might call today but I guess it's will be next week. I'm not very good at waiting.

If she is full on wriggly I wouldn't risk a vest then as she could get caught in it and perhaps hurt herself . Sorry know I am back tracking on my suggestion now but best to err on the side of caution - dont risk it. My Rosie was very ill so the risk of getting caught or injured was very very low.

It's a difficult one, as anything you put on that area she can lick and pull off straight away. And nethies are so small, I would think it's hard to think of anything much bigger than a man's sock to fit them

I made a 'harness' thing for Max. A kind of mini version of a vest to cover the area between his should blades that he was ripping up. That and the cream I found fixed it in the end. But not without a couple of years of full on diagnostics and biopsy, etc ....

So tough xx

Ah ok. Yes pip is totally normal other than fur pulling and bouts of pain. I'll leave her as she is for now. I just checked in on them and they both looked at me with as if to say. "Why are you in here again Mum, we are clearing sleeping!"

Yep I'm currently spending my day off in the bedroom because if I go in the lounge I definitely get the stink eye and then the cage shaking starts. Lol.
