Archie and Pip went for their vet adventure this morning.

They gave her a bit of gas cos she wouldn't stay still (not a surprise) but they got a good blood sample. We should hear back from them next week.

Unfortunately her bladder was empty so they couldn't get a urine sample. So I have the fun challenge of getting one. I've been home and he now and she had pee'd 8 times! Not one of them in a empty tray. She just doesn't like it. They are all on a blanket!!!!

Any tips?

Hahaha I have done this :D

Take everything away apart from a tray (I put some hay, readigrass and pellets in there for appeal but no newspaper), and confine if necessary. Oh, and a water bowl :)

You should be able to get the pee up in a syringe from the bottom of the tray ... The first time I did this, it took me four hours

I am glad they got a good blood sample. That's by far harder for a vet to do :)

They said I couldn't put hay in it or it would affect the sample. She wouldn't hop in an empty tray! I ended up sitting with them and when she lifted her tail I shoved a tiny tuberware pot underneath. It took 8 goes but I got a pea sized enough which was just enough apparently.

Only slight issue is they tried to get blood from her neck first as that was already bald and they wiped the area with surgical spirit etc. They couldn't get to the vein because the skin was too thick because of her fur pulling. So they then did it on her leg.

She is now licking her neck loads and pulling at the fur because she wants to clean the smell off! Im worried it might make her worse! They said it would be her leg so I'm a bit annoyed that they thought it was a good idea to try her neck!!! :-(

On the plus side we should hear back next week and the lab doing it has a rabbit specialist who his going to discuss results with my vet.

Noooo, hay is OK (if you ever want to do it again). The sample was confirmed as perfectly OK from a hay filled tray :) But well done you for getting the sample!

Sorry about her neck. Presumably they were trying the jugular? That's always been a last resort if none can be gotten out of the leg. Really surprised they tried there first.

Vibes to the dear little Madam xx

ps. I met another cute Nethie today  A smoke pearl marten boy bun xx

Yes I think they were. They only said about it when I phoned once we got home. Her neck was really wet and she was licking it loads and asked why. The nurse said they tried there because she was already bald there. I guess so they didn't have to shave another bit of her?

Anyway hopefully she leave it alone soon and well have the answers next week (fingers crossed)

Ooh where was the cute nethie?

Archie was looking super cute today, he wants to show you his picture.....

And this was pip refusing to put her bum in an empty tray!!!! She peed in the shoe box whilst eating the treats from the tray. Lol

Archie looks absolutely perfect as he always does :D, and Pip made me laugh!

Of course you wouldn't want to pee in an empty tray - you'd get your bum wet!!

I saw this really cute Nethie as I was invited over to meet him at the house of a lovely RU-er :D He certainly lived up to his title of 'Nethie' - cute but FULL of attitude

Yes my OH thought it was funny too. He said "she's too smart for you" hahaha.

Yes I think Nethies should be called attitude buns. I think the boys are worse. Pip is pretty easy going as long as she gets to play tunnels. (Running under our legs whilst we are on all fours) she nudges your knees if she wants to play.

Not sure how it started but tunnels must be played multiple times a day!

Sounds like one of my yoga exercises

Lol. Yep does look like bunny yoga. I tried doing some Pilates in here last month. Buns thought the "bridge" was great. Archie sat on my tummy as it went up and down. Pip ran underneath.

Yes it's fatal doing exercises with bunnies in the room

But even funnier to watch someone else lying on their back, with a bunny plonked in the middle of their tummy, and them laughing so hard the bun is bouncing up and down

Did the crab apple make any difference to Pip's fur pulling?
I don't know. The patch is much bigger and she's doing it everyday which she has never done before. But she has been drinking more of her crab apple so I think it's kept her more hydrated. She hasnt had any gas and teeth grinding though the last two times.

This might just be because the fur is passing through easier cos she's eating a little every day like when they moult?

Is that since they tried to take the blood from there, or was it before that?

Perhaps the fur is passing through better, as she's nibbling constantly and not in a big go .. So it's good it's not causing her gas or pain, but not good to be nibbling all the time :(

Is was before the bloods. It's why I decided to get them done because she looked like she was getting worse. :-(

Poor wee lassie xx
I just checked on the wee lassie. They were both snoozing. She's definitely pulled more out after they made it all wet yesterday. It's a huge patch. :-(

I gave her some plantain and she wilted it down so at least shed eating. X

I feel terribly sorry for her, so I can only guess how painful it is for you to see xx

Oops that was meant to say wolfed not wilted. Silly auto correct.

Thanks. It is pretty horrid. Feel like I can't help her. I'm letting them sleep now and will check on her again later.

Poor girl, my bridge bun Rosie pulled out alot of her chest fur but it was pain and tooth absess related so I know how distressing it can be to see / watch. What I put on her that helped a little was a premature baby vest but cut the snap buttons off to make it more of a vest. I never left her unattended wit it on and she tolerated it very well. Others may not agree with this to which I understand. You know your bun. I wish you could get to the bottom of what was wrong. Sending hugs x

Hi Nickybunny.

Yeah I thought about putting on clothes to stop her. The vets all think it's a bad idea it case she eats the fibres and we both work full time so we could only leave it on for a few hours each night.

We are also not sure we could get it on her she is a very very wriggly nethie!

Did your bun ever try to lick the vest?
