Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

newborn kits and mother rabbit

Hi Tonibun, thanks for replying so quickly. The babies have been sexed and we have 2 girls and 2 boys. Yes, they are all still with mum and dad. Mum and dad have their own hutch and the babies in their own one too and they go in the garden together (so far at least). We are keeping one of each sex and family friends are having the other pair. We are keeping them all with us until the girls are old enough to be spayed as we have the facilities to keep the two sexes apart until then, then our friends are taking their pair. We have seen dad chasing both boys and one girl so far. We were hoping that once our friends take their two, the four we have left will get on fine. My husband had ideas on turning the two hutches into one mansion for all four of them to live in, but If that doesn’t turn out to be the case, we will have to keep the hutches separate and let them into the garden in pairs.

This sounds wonderful and the bunnies will benefit immensely with your careful upbringing. He chases both boys and one of the girls, I would keep an eye on the girl he chases as some boys do look like girls until they get a bit older. So you might have 3 boys. Once the boy you are keeping has been neutered then it is possible the 4, Mum,Dad, Brother and Sister will get along as one group. You can't guarantee this but you could be lucky. They would like that too.
