JR Farms / Zooplus herbs and forage - which ones do you uise?

~ILoveMyBunny~

Hey :)
I know quite a few on here use the JR Farms dried forage from Zooplus. I was just wondering which ones you use that are rabbit safe?
I've been buying them from there for a while now but the only ones I've bought are the dandelion, ribwort and garden herb ones. Are there any others that are rabbit safe? Just curious what others use :D

Is the milk thistle one okay? It says its for chinchillas but milk thistle is safe for rabbits isn't it?

Thanks :D

Thanks :D

Out of all of them the Ribwort is by far the favourite for my 5 Rabbits. Next comes the Garden Herbs. Strangley they dont seem too keen on the Dandelion. I have not bought the Milk Thistle as I cant find a detailed list of the specific ingredients in it.

I also buy these

With these in the 'Beauty Power' mix there are locust beans, I picked them out and did not feed them to the Rabbits

I haven't tried the herbs but I did try the apple hay once and I don't think it was good quality at all, it smelled awful

Thank you so much Jane :D That's really helpful. Yes I noticed there wasn't an ingredients list on the milk thistle. That did bother me.
I did go to buy the herb mix once before (http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/snacks_supplements/natural_plant_snacks/herbs/198433) but removed it when I found it had clover. Doesn't clover cause gas?
The blossom mix I saw but I wasn't sure about the cactus flowers, so if they're safe I'll definitely be getting some of them :D Rose petals they're a little meh with but mallow flowers they love.
I've nearly bought the flower mix a few times but wasn't sure about some of the ingredients, the licorice and pea in particular. Are they okay? If so I'll get some of those and pick out the locust beans. I didn't know they weren't good for rabbits, don't they use that in fibafirst? I had a look on google images as I don't know what locust bean looks like  - I've seen this in muesli-type food in the past, is this what I'm looking for?

I was interested in this one too but couldn't get any info on strawflower http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/pets/rabbits/rabbit_snacks/snacks/465819

Mine go mad for both the ribwort and the dandelion. I do find that the dandelion has a lot of flowers which is nice. I found Lunar helping herself to the spare bag of ribwort the other day as I forgot that putting something up high doesn't mean that it's inaccessible to certain rabbits.

DemiS: Do you mean these? http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hay_and_bedding/hay_small_pets/357298 I've nearly bought them in the past but the reviews at the time put me off a bit. I would try it but I made the mistake of buying hay from timothyhay.co.uk about a month ago for the first time on the huge recommendation of everyone on here and now my spoilt lot won't touch any other hay
I've never seen anything like it. They've always loved their hay but this is on a whole new level. They want it over herbs - what rabbits do that?! I ran out quicker than I thought and had to go back to some (not the best but still decent quality) meadow hay and wow you should have seen the response  sulking would be an understatement
So that's basically the only hay I'm allowed to buy now. I'm going to buy some of the Zooplus hay I used to buy and hope I can get away with mixing it as the timothy hay is so expensive but I'm not holding my breath...
Trust them to develop expensive tastes

It's not that the locust beans are 'toxic' to Rabbits but that they have been known to cause GI tract obstructions. If they are crushed to a powder they would be fine, but in the 'Beauty Power' mix they are whole and possibly not de-hulled. I just wont risk it. Locust beans are still actually sold as 'Rabbit Treats' by some companies.

Ah, thanks Jane, that makes sense! :D Definitely not something worth risking.
Is the licorice okay? I've found it on some safe lists and some say it's toxic? Should I pick out the peas as well? I know peas aren't toxic but I've always avoided them as I didn't think they were good for them?

The peas are flakes not whole dried peas, if I remember correctly. So they are OK as a treat. Not a 'healthy' regular food though. Re the Licorice, it's the licorice sweet that humans eat that Rabbits should not. Licorice root is not toxic.

Rabbits love those squashed peas!

They are very high in protein, so you have to watch for a sticky bottom if there are too many in the mix :)
