  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have a question

Generally what are the first symptoms of Myxi?

What did those whose buns had Myxi notice first?

Thanx

Gem x

What looked like watery eyes but with both eyes effected and hot slightly thickened ears.

Our rabbits had red sores suddenly appear around their eyes, and started sneezing intermittently.
I like Tamsin noticed they had hot ears and felt clammy.
I guess early symptoms vary slightly from rabbit to rabbit.

Its spread by biting insects so its possible to contain it if you can contain them. Make sure you don't have any standing water that will attrack mossies, just a couple of inches in a bucket is enough. Step up you litter tray cleaning frequency to stop them being attracted and watch out for sticky bums.

With the weather getting colder/wetter the amount of insects should start decreasing.

Are they vaccinated?

With william his eye rims looked pink as did his nose an ears. his privite parts were very swollen

Bunnies are fine, not myxi thank god!

I got quite worried as Smokey's eye went bad, then his twin sisters, then his other eye went bad, then an unrelated baby boy's eyes went manky
