Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can rabbits cope with only one eye? U/D: New pic 6 months on

Hi Lisa,

I finaly got some quotes today and my bunny is booked in for Friday, it's so odd how the price differs so much.

My usual vet spoke to a specialist who wanted £100 just for a consultation. She called springfield vets for a quote and that was 550-650 and my actual vet was able to get me a quote of £380.37 (oddly specific). I am going with my usual vet, not just because of the price but the surgeon is quite rabbit savvy and she has done the surgery multiple times. I'm hoping my bunny does as well as yours!

Lauren

Good luck Lauren!

Is that Friday this week?

Ernie had another checkup earlier this week and the vet says he is healing well. His eye is still tender and a bit bruised but it's looking lots better (will try to get a pic of it later).

The vet did ask that we continue to keep the boys separate for another week or so though, so the shed is still fenced in half. I'm becoming increasingly worried about re-introducing them when the time comes so I might make a thread in the behaviour forum for that.

I'm glad to hear that Ernie's eye is healing up well :)

I would feel the same as you do regards the separation. We'll help you all we can when the time comes :)

I'm so glad to hear how well Ernie is doing. You may be fortunate in that the boys will get back together without too much ado. Cross that bridge when you come to it though :)

Just wanted to add a photo to show how well Ernie's eye is healing. Where the stitches are is scabbed up slightly and the fur is growing back nicely . . . although strangely . . . it's coming back in tuffs and it looks like he's had decorative patterns shaved into his fur!

I'm so glad to see them together and that Ernie's eye is healing well :D

Apologies if what I'm about to say has been covered in the posts but I can't see anything so......
I have 2 house rabbits who have free range. One, Harriet, is blind in one eye. She's fine BUT she cannot see me half the time. - I sometimes think she's not got very good sight in the other eye but the vet can't see anything untoward. She's great at moving around the flat but appears to be oblivious to danger, unlike me, which leads to her rushing in front, across behind, under my feet , not managing to avoid said foot/feet when I'm walking forwards, taking a step back etc etc. I think the only reason I haven't -yet- actually tripped over her is because I have a good sense of balance
I can hear people saying, " Well, you just have to be very careful where you step". I promise you I AM. She darts about all the time, my head constantly down, on alert, but somehow, sometimes her head and my foot collide. I've developed ashuffle walk where the feet don't actually leave the floor, which helps.

Just wanted to give a 6 month update on Ernie. He copes really well with one eye, although he does tend to stick like glue to Eric and follows him everywhere. All his fur has grown back completely now! :D
