There is also 2 confirmed cases of rabbits dying from RVHD2 that were sold at the Canterbury store.

They sadly passed just 2 days after purchase.

God knows how many unreported cases there are. This could be the tip of the iceberg. Think of the footfall of people through their stores, an unvaccinated rabbit going to an in-store vet for treatment.

It is shocking that they're not admitting infected rabbits have passed through their stores.

I'm sorry but they (P@H) won't get the be getting the benefit of the doubt from me.

This is my latest reply from them after I asked if they were denying confirmed cases... I also questioned why they have only sent the email out now if there haven't been confirmed cases... mmm!

    'Hi Holly,

We have not denied that we have investigated a small number of isolated cases. Having done that in a great deal of detail, and having consulted with independent specialist vets, we saw no evidence that would lead us to suspect that we have an outbreak of RHD2 among the rabbits in our stores or at our breeders. We have, however, taken steps to have our breeders vaccinate all their breeding stock. We believe this is a sensible precaution to take.

It is not correct to say that we have “only just decided” to pass on information about RHD2 to our customers. We already provide vouchers for free vaccination against RHD1 and Myxomatosis with every rabbit sold or adopted from our stores. Following the identification of the new RHD2 strain, we updated the vouchers to provide advice to customers about RHD2 and the need to consult their vet for RHD2 vaccine. We felt it was important to update customers with the facts about RHD2 and reiterate the action they should take to keep their pet safe.

We will continue to behave responsibly, guided by advice from independent veterinary specialists.

    Thanks, Liz@PaH

Yep! It sounds like they are saying that they have had no confirmed cases doesn't it?

I dont trust any organisation that sells animals that have been mass bred ... none of us know what the conditions are like for those animals and so I keep myself and my money well away from them.

This politic way of dealing with the cases of RHD does nothing to change my mind about them.

Oh dear, reading the PAH FB Page and it seems that a lot of people are receiving the email and yet they have never owned a Rabbit !!

Also, they, PAH, are stating that the RHD2 Vaccine has to be imported so is harder to get hold of. But it has been available from 3 UK Wholesalers since January

I've received the email from P@H too, said I was a rabbit owner, ours came from a rescue but I buy their pellets and toys from there. I also used to use the in store vet, Vets4Pets and they were brilliant when Tallulah was so ill, the vet nurse took her home to nurse each evening but they said they weren't stocking the new vaccine as there was no demand for it. I've now had to register with a more savvy vet who is actively encouraging vaccinations, even for house buns like ours - its a 20 min drive though :-(
