You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. So Miley's lost a nail...

Mileymoo

Young Bun
So I was clipping Miley's nails tonight with help from my mum and sister. I noticed she was a little quiet earlier and kept licking her front left foot. As we got to the inside nail, my sister got the clippers around it and... it fell out! There's no blood on her or in her cage, on the floor, anywhere! Does it just look broken, on has it completely fallen out? She hasn't been limping, but I noticed her holding her foot up occasionally when she's sitting.
I can't think what's happened, she's a house rabbit, and there's nothing she can catch it on anywhere I can see!
Any ideas? Thanks!

She probably did catch it on something at some stage as the nail is long. She probably cleaned up any blood herself. Just keep a close eye on the injury for any swelling/signs of infection. The nail should regrow and it should all heal well. If Miley remains unusually quiet and/or is just not herself then a Vet check would be a good idea. Just to err on the side of caution x

Awww it always looks bad when a nail falls out, but it does happen in rabbits :)

It's probably due to the fact that the nail is a little long, and it must have got caught on something.

Do keep an eye on it, to make sure the nail bed doesn't get infected and also to make sure that the toe isn't broken. It's unlikely but if she's holding her foot up I might consider a vet's visit to be on the safe side.

Well, she seems fine today! Using her foot, no blood, jumping in and out of her hay tray just fine, thank goodness!
