Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help! limping rabbit!

My rabbit, Smudge, who is 9 now has been limping for a week now. Will it get better or is this it now? He is on daily pain relief, and kept penned up, but isn't really better. He won't pitch on it at all. But is happy, friendly and eating and drinking.

I assume that he has been examined by your Vet ? Any Xrays done ?

Is it a hind leg or a front leg that is the problem ?

Hi there :)

Sorry to hear about Smudge. There are so many possible causes for a limping rabbit. I'm assuming he's seen the vet, as you say he's on daily pain relief? Metacam for pain relief is a good idea. It's also an anti-inflammatory, so it will help calm things down if he's done some soft tissue injury.

There's a few ideas of what could be causing the limp here ...

I would ask the vet to do an X-ray of the limb, and his spine, to see what's going on for him, as there's been no progress.
