  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pet Insurance Questions

Just wanted to add to this too. I've just got Princess insured with Petplan, she came with 6 weeks free insurance from rescue, but I thought I would def get her insured as she seems like one of those buns that u just know is gonna cost you!! The only thing they won't cover me for is her mammary lumps as they are a pre-existing condition but that doesn't fuss me as if they grew back I prob wouldn't have them removed anyway.

Premium came to £60 for the year, I got a discount because I work for the Blue Cross and paid it all in one go which lowered it even more! My other two aren't insured but as Princess was a stray before we took her on, I don't know how well she has been looked after etc. They will pay out for teeth conditions that cause ill health but not for routine trimming (asked the lovely man on the fone!!). I'm gonna see how this year goes, and then see what the renewal quote is!

I had Alfie my french lop insured with Petplan for 7 pound a month and after just being insured for 3 and a half weeks he developed glaucoma. They paid out in total over his short little life of just over 7 months, 1625 pounds, without batting an eyelid. I was well impressed! Although having said that, I haven't got these rabbits insured as having 17 I think I would be paying out alot more than I would ever be claiming.(hopefully)
